Control cable - how strong is it?

Post by whisper » Wed May 04, 2011 2:13 pm

The Whisper uses 1/8" 7 by 19 cable in either galvanised or stainless steel. The ends are terminated with a single "Nicopress" sleeve. The Nicopress is crimped using a Nicopress crimper. After crimping a "go - no go" gauge is used to ensure that the crimp is adequately crimped. If the gauge fits the crimp its good to go...if not it needs to be re-done or replaced (very important :!: )

Some builders are using 3mm (metric) cable instead of 1/8". I decided to make test samples to check the strength of this cable versus the specified cable.

The image shows the results of the test.
