2 flights today. First one I limited the speed to 140kts. Second one I went up to 150kts which happened at 2400 RPM with plenty of throttle travel remaining :D :D
Handling is Pitts S2A like. Lovely!
I don't have an elevator trim installed yet and found it flew hands off at 120MPH but anything above that needed forward stick pressure to maintain level flight. I have shimmed the tailplane slightly and am hoping to get the stick free speed up a bit. I will then install the spring trim.

All in all a successful day.....hopefully will get some sleep tonight!!!

First cross country today!! PE-UH-PE.....
Expanded the envelope to 178MPH straight and level.Still lots of throttle travel remaining. No idea yet what top speed is going to be.....
Will keep expanding 5kts at a time with thorough inspections between flights.

Congratulations Russell.
I believe Mr Grebe will now place his order. Is this not what he was waiting for, a super fast Whisper in which he will fit. :roll: :roll:
I believe you will do all the proving flights in PE and then move to P/beach.
Please keep us up to date with the performence data.
You do not mention about oil temp and silinder temp, normally a problem that most homebuilders experience.
You proof that you did your homework and your design is 100% as allways. :D :D :D

Oil temp is cold at under 70 C. CHT varies a lot between 130 and 170. Number 3 is the hot one. It may be that the new engine is still bedding in. I will give it another hr or so before I fiddle with it. I will be keeping GAB at PE for a while. PB is 550m long due to the flooding!! Plus I also sold my hangar at PB to pay the bills!!! :( Development is eyewateringly expensive!!!

Hello there

Interesting thread. Some random questions:
1. How many seats will the final version be, 2,3 or 4 (even if 2+2)? Will there be side windows on both sides for the rear passengers?
2. If I understand correctly the current canopy is not the final version, and one without the sexy crossing strappy things is planned?
3. Which model Lycoming are you using for the firs one? 320, 360 etc?

Seating will depend on actual CG of the aircraft that you build based on your engine choice, prop etc. Mine has a very light prop and hence is limited to a rear seat capacity of only 24kg (very small child or baggage). If your intention is to have more capacity then you would ensure that you get the CG a bit further forward.
A window can be cut on the other side.
Canopy can also be the standard Whisper 2 piece if desired.
