FITTING A WHISPER INTO A REGULAR HANGAR

Very few hangars have a 16m width (allowing the Whisper to go straight in). If you can somehow move your Whisper sideways then you can fit it into a hangar with a width less than 16m. In fact then you only need about 7.5m width. Gliding clubs have all manner of clever dolleys (No Ollie - not that type :shock: ) to assist with moving long winged flying machines sideways but most I have seen have small castor wheels. These are ok on a hard concrete floor but battle over hangar door rails and can't handle grass and other soft surfaces. Typically you also need to lift a wheel off the ground to get the dolley under it. All of this generally requires a few helpers. I wanted a single person solution requiring minimal muscle power.
The gadget you see in the pics uses a hydraulic jack to lift the Whisper under its belly. Padded load spreaders lift under the carry through spar and undercarriage bulkheads which are suitably strong points not to cause damage to the structure.

The idea is to:
1) park sideways in front of the hangar
2) push dolley under the aircraft and jack up
3) unlock the tailwheel
4) grab the wingtip furthest from the hangar and push/steer the a/c into the hangar.

The pics show GXW being pushed into Chalkie Stobbart's hangar and fitting in nicely under his Fairchild's wing. YES, that Chalkie - the famous one :D
