How strong is a Whisper?

Postby whisper » Mon Sep 28, 2015 10:12 pm

Had a call from a Whisper owner today relaying a recent experience he had in his 16m Whisper motor glider..I am very relieved (so is he!) that we elected to design to the rather tough CS22 glider regulations rather than one of the new "lightweight" categories...

Apparently got mixed up in some thunder clouds and experienced VERY violent turbulence;
1) wingtips flexing by estimated 1.5m
2) battery wrenched out of mounting
3) virtually all oil thrown from engine
4) taken to 10500' with engine at idle
5) thrown inverted at times
6) cuts and bruises from shoulder straps caused by extreme turbulence

Naturally the aircraft is undergoing a major inspection after such an occurrence.

Extremely relieved that he is ok.

Very happy to hear this :D

Whispers are strong! I realised while building and going through the plans for the build that there is lots or redundancy as far as strength goes, but then you never know when you may need it ;)

Glad that all is OK and would love to hear how the a/c is holding up..?

Pieter, how is NZ?
Have you met up with any of the Whisper owners there yet?
Missing your build posts this side!
