Have you made up your mind yet Russell? - Looks like Jacque and I will be going up in Chompy. Not sure if Stewart is joining us yet.

Any others from the Whisper brigade??

Heres the result of an accomodation enquiry I made for a group of eight:

Good morning to you,
We are able to accommodate you for the period requested.
We are prepared to offer you the exclusive use of the villa for your group.
Furthermore, we are offering you a discounted, group rate of R1800.00 per day, inclusive of breakfast. (R225.00 each) I am not sure if it is relative but we are located 1,2 kms from Margate Airport.
Best regards
Paris Fitches

EAA Margate was just like old times.....adventure to get there and back, lotsa aerie talk, a tad too much liquid intake....basically just a perfect weekend :D
I attended 13 EAA Margates between 1983 and when they decided to stop it in the late nineties. As far as I am concerned Margate is to EAA in SA what Oshkosh is to EAA in the states. The return of the annual EAA convention to Margate this year is in my opinion what is going to awaken EAA once again in SA. I bumped into many of the old faces from the eighties and many new ones. This year approximately 100 aircraft flew in. In the old days as many as 450 used to arrive in a good year. Well done to Neville,Dave, Karl, Trixie and all the other folk who managed to patch things up with the Margate city council and get EAA back to its "home".
I am of the opinion that if EAA goes permanently back to Margate the aircraft numbers will be back to 400+ within just a few years....

Despite frightful weather predictions three Whispers made it to Margate. Johan and Gavin in ENA, Riaan and Piet in GZY and Stewart and myself in FDI.
We had serious headwinds on the way there and even more serious headwinds on the way back  Murphy! An even more entertaining occurence occured on the way back just before East London...The 90km/h bergwind with temperature 27deg C had an argument with the cold westerly gale preceding the cold front. Unfortunately the Whisper formation got entangled in the argument. I can safely say that in 30 years of flying I have never been thrown around like that before. I was extremely grateful that we were in Whispers with their 10g wings and not in one of the "lightweights". We somehow managed to get through the mess and wrestled the aeries onto the ground at East London. Johan was so relieved to be on the ground he asked the ATC if he had a shot of Whiskey for him :D
The rest of the flight back was fine even though we had rather brisk headwinds. Shortly after closing the hangar doors the storm arrived and as I type this we are being lashed by a Cape gale with rain....just made it!!
