Nico and his wife Lolita are the new owners of ZU-FDI. A few days after ferrying the aircraft from paradise back to jhb they decided to do a 30+hr tour of Namibia :D
Tonight they are in Swakopmund. Nico has sent a few pics from his cellphone which I'll post below. Hopefully he'll get to a PC soon to send through more details of this epic adventure....
I'm not sure but this may be the first international Whisper flight??

in typical airline captain fashion Nico followed his pre-arranged itinerary to the minute hence todays flight took them back to the coast and Swakopmund. En route they passed the famous Brandberg which he says "made us feel so small". It is apparently 8461'. Look at the MGL screen!!!!!

Today they flew from swakopmund back to eros.
Tomorrow is Eros to Upington....Nico is hoping for a tailwind and is planning to do it in a single hop.....

Apparently fuel flow has been under 15litres per hour and if the tailwind is as forecast they'll do eros upington in 4 hrs....

Windhoek to Upington direct 767km on 62litres of fuel in 4h15 :D :D :D Try that in your Prius!!!!
This has got to be some sort of record :?:
Nico clearly has not realised that this aerie is supposed to be a glider and is not a transcontinental airliner.
Pics below showing the MGL and a pic of FDI back on SA soil at Upington.
Tonight they are at Dundi Lodge and tomorrow it is back to the big smoke (JHB)!!

pics of the orange river just below the augrabies falls...of a spot called Augrabies Bush Camp ( )..seems they fancied Dundi Lodge so much they stayed an extra night so its only back to the big smoke tomorrow :)

Nico has promised to send details of the whole flight once they are back in JHB....which we'll post here

Nico has given me all the pics of their trip. I updated some of the posts above with higher res pics. What a trip......definitely on my bucket list :D
