Andrew Young progressing well

Post by whisper » Tue Jun 07, 2005 12:08 pm

Andrew and his Dad are hard at work on their farm near Patensie building Whisper #10. They have already tested their wings and are making good progress as can be seen from the pics below.

Andrew sent pics of his oil cooler installation....Looks like he has two large coolers which are fed by large inlets. The coolers dump into the low pressure behind the engine.
Assuming the coolers are efficient, that all baffling is good and that he gets a good low pressure below the engine with a steep exit duct I reckon this system should cool very efficiently. It may be over cooled but that is better for test flying and can easily be remedied later

Congratulation Andrew, I have to say that it sure looked awsome from the ground.

Its clear you need nerves of steel to take a new aircraft into the air! It was not the best weather, (overcast, rainy, wind-south westerly), I expected a few high speed taxi trials and nothing more. After deciding on a suitable runway, Rego applied full power and was airborne. The initial flight lasted 15min, with Rego practicing a few gentle turns and testing the airbrakes etc. The landing was perfect, i.e. we can use the plane again. Still got the shakes!
