Dene i will definitely be calling on you, when you are finished with this project of course to sort out my cowling as far as the tacky mess i have been left with regarding the oil cooler :oops:

I had the first engine run today and I am pretty pleased with the results. The OAT was 36.5deg C and with a run at 2500 rpm for +/- 8min after warmup I never saw a cylinder head temp over 150degC or an oil temp over 75degC. I realize that there is a big difference between a static run and a genuine full power climb but the results look promising. First flight immenent, stay tuned! :twisted:

Sean's aircraft has had one flight of about 20 minutes. All went well.
Pics below show the proud builder (Dene Collett) moments after the flight. I believe it is safe to say that this is currently the best finished Whisper so far. Dene has gone to great lengths to show that an "amateur" built aircraft can in fact be better in all respects to a mass produced factory aircraft. I believe this has been achieved.
It is not to say that a better Whisper cannot be built but the bar has now been set quite high :D

ZU-GAS has had a few more flights and all is going well :D
BTW this is the 15th Whisper to fly.

Sean blasted off back to Joburg just as we were being hammered by a particularly miserable cold front. I suspect he and Deon are a little saddle sore as the flight was likely to be rather long against about a 30-40kt headwind and some rain to dodge. But apparently ZU-GAS is nestled alongside ZU-GMW at Springs

Well, it was an interesting flight back in probably the crappiest weather so far this year. Now I remember why I fly IFR for a living! ZU-GAS went like a dream, even in the potent crosswind landings at all 4 of our stops. I have not been able to fly since, as the sight gauge decided to pop and fill the aircraft with 80 litres of avgas. We got as much as we could find out of the fuselage, but there is no way I am getting a flight until the smell diminishes. I am still floating from the fumes of the cleanup.

I have had the decals put on and will post a pic as soon as i remember my camera.

Well, ZU-GAS had all its avionics connected only to find that the GTX327 transponder from Garmin was U/S. This seems to be my luck, as I had the same with the Dynon on first installation. However, Century Avionics have promised me that a new unit will arrive next week. The spats have been taken off for some cosmetic "surgery", but other than that, she is up and running.

Just in case you were wondering, no that is not a run in the paint on the fin!! :)
