Re: Pieter Visser
This has been a long time in the making...
Finally at the stage where I can start my build project, but there will be complications over the next couple of months... After much thought my wife and I decided to relocate to NZ, so depending on many, many factors, the timeline for my build will be impacted, but for now, I need to get started, I've stalled long enough.
I'll be building in my garage at home. This way my family will be a part of the build and I can optimise free time and put it to use on the project. I'll introduce my helpers over time too.
The first step was to get the landing gear humps welded. I called on a very good friend of mine for this, as he has the correct equipment for the job. I'm going to collect the humps today, but here is the before picture.
Thank you JP

Also placed my order for all the foam needed for the Wings and Horisontal Stab. This was much more than I anticipated, but did manage to get it home...

Re: Pieter Visser
Yesterday I collected the main gear humps from JP, who did a stirling job of welding the open joints for me...

Re: Pieter Visser
Tonight I plan to make a small layup with my Ampreg 21 and hardener to see if it is still working as expected after 9 months of storage in my garage...
If this proves successful, then the plan is to start with the engine mounting supports over the weekend
I'd like to go buy one of those self levelling laser goodies as well, seems that is much needed equipment!

Re: Pieter Visser
I suggest the bosch self leveling one...it's just over R1000 but really very useful.
Your ampreg should be fine. When it is stored for a very long time the resin thickens into a solid. Leaving it in the sun or in a bath of warm water turns it back to liquid. I very much doubt yours will have gone solid yet.
Expiry date should be still ok as well.
Thx for the updates...nice to watch the progress!

I will keep the updates coming
Thought the Bosh would be the one to go for.
Looking at relocating abroad, so as mentioned, many factors in play, but seems I'm going to be in SA for a while longer than I anticipated. Therefore plan to seize every opportunity to get my build as far as possible over the next 8 months or so.

We've been "emigrating" since 1997! Even have NZ citizenship. BUT still here. SA is hard to beat despite the odd problem!!

Re: Pieter Visser

We're looking at going to NZ! Just the timing as I'm waiting for the project there to start and at the same time roll off in SA without upsetting any project momentum.
I know SA is hard to beat, but JHB feels like a different story. My folks live in Struisbaai and we cannot be happier for them. Quality retirement is all I can say
